Today is Lady Gaga‘s birthday. The singer/actress/activist/all around badass turns 36 and to celebrate, we thought we’d look back on one of her many iconic interview moments.
It happened in 2011. While promoting her album Born This Way, Gaga sat down with Anderson Cooper. During the interview, she sucked on a diamond as he interrogated her about why she hadn’t yet put out a press release confirming whether or not she had… a male appendage? What?!
For some reason, at the time, the singer’s genitals were the subject of internet rumors. When asked by Cooper if she was born a “hermaphrodite” (cringe) and had both a penis and a vagina, Gaga replied, “Maybe I do. Would it be so terrible?”
When Cooper pressed why she hadn’t put out a statement clarifying the type of genitalia she had, the singer answered, “Why the hell am I going to waste my time and give a press release about whether or not I have a penis? My fans don’t care and neither do I.”
